Carlota Espinach comes to Vincennes University from Barcelona, Spain, where basketball has played a major role in her life and development. One of her most memorable moments came when her team finished second in Catalonia, falling just short of the championship. Rather than focusing on the loss, Carlota values the experience for what it taught her about learning from mistakes, improving as a player, and continuing to push forward. She chose VU because of the unity and support she saw within the women's basketball program, as well as the opportunity to pursue her academic interests in Art and Design.
Carlota enters her first season with the Trailblazers focused on becoming a better player and person while helping the team grow together. Her goals include improving her skills, becoming a stronger communicator, and contributing to a team that competes to win every game possible. She is motivated by knowing her family believes in her and carries with her the advice to keep pushing forward even when things are at their most difficult. For Carlota, representing Vincennes University is an opportunity she does not take lightly, and she hopes to prove herself worthy of wearing the VU jersey through her effort and commitment each day.
Away from basketball, Carlota enjoys painting, making crafts and cooking, interests that connect with her goal of becoming a graphic designer and eventually working for a well-known company or creating one of her own. Her favorite athletes include Spanish basketball legend Pau Gasol and Jan Vesely, while one sporting event she would love to attend is an NBA or ACB playoff game. She also enjoys Friends, the Mamma Mia! films and a wide variety of music, with ABBA holding a special place among her favorites. Though she may come across as shy when people first meet her, Carlota describes herself as much more open-minded once they get to know her.
Coach Johnson on Carlota...
"Carlota is a talented young post player who brings great energy and a high basketball IQ to our team. She has a natural feel for the game and consistently makes the right read, which is a special quality for a freshman. As she continues to gain confidence and experience, Iām excited to see her grow and make a real impact for us this season."
