Coming to VU from Spain, the freshman point guard spent nine years playing in Olot, serving as a team captain throughout that time while winning seven league championships. She also helped her team finish second in Catalonia and earned MVP honors in those championships.
Colomer later played for Club Bàsquet Girona, where she won four Catalan championships and served as a captain for two years. During her time with Girona, the team twice finished first in the league and earned promotion to Preferent A. Colomer considers both her runner-up finish in Catalonia with Olot and her final season with Girona among the most important experiences of her basketball career.
Now in her first year of eligibility, Colomer hopes to continue developing in every aspect of her game while taking on responsibilities and becoming an important part of the team. Her goals for the team include building stronger team chemistry and competing for a national championship. She chose VU after developing a connection with the coaching staff and seeing their confidence in her.
Colomer plans to earn her degree while finding a career path she is passionate about. Her dream is to play professional basketball. Away from the court, she enjoys listening to music, spending time with friends and traveling to new places. She lists Stephen Curry and Kobe Bryant as her favorite athletes and says improving every day and making her family proud are among her biggest sources of motivation.
Coach Johnson on Loida...
“Loida has a maturity about her game that you don’t always see in a freshman. Her court vision, decision-making, and ability to see plays develop make her a special point guard. She understands how to make the people around her better, and most importantly, she has the mindset of a winner.”
