For Nya Dame, committing to Vincennes University and celebrating her signing day stand out as the most memorable moments of her basketball career. The Princeton, Indiana native brings a decorated high school résumé to VU after serving as a two-year team captain, earning All-County honors twice, First Team All-PAC recognition and Academic All-State honors at Princeton Community High School.
The 5-foot-3 point guard chose Vincennes because of the program’s culture and the opportunity to become the best version of herself both on and off the court. Nya enters her freshman season focused on becoming stronger, playing efficiently and continuing to develop her game while helping the Trailblazers pursue a National Championship. Her future and teammates serve as her biggest sources of motivation, and prayer is part of her routine before every game.
A Nursing major, Nya plans to earn her RN before eventually becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner or CRNA, with travel nursing as her dream job. Away from basketball, she enjoys shopping, listening to R&B and spending time with her younger siblings, Kian and Kiya. Since arriving at VU, Nya says she has already learned how quickly new teammates can become family.
Coach Johnson on Nya...
“Nya is a gifted scorer who plays with a true winning mentality. She has the ability to put pressure on a defense and make big plays, but what stands out most is her desire to compete and find ways to win. As a freshman, I’m excited to watch her continue to grow into her role and become an important piece of our program.”
