Blocking shots has become a specialty for Ariana Bell. The 6-foot-2 forward set Central Gwinnett High School’s single-season record with 104 blocks and tied the program’s single-game mark with 14, earning recognition as one of Georgia’s top shot blockers. Ariana also received All-State recognition from Kyle Sandy and All-Defensive Team honors, with the latter standing out as one of the most memorable accomplishments of her high school career.
Basketball also runs in the family. Ariana’s father, Norris Bell, played at UNLV, and she wears No. 14/24 in honor of the number he wore during his playing career. Her father remains her biggest source of motivation, and Ariana carries with her the advice, “It can only rain for so long.”
A Loganville, Georgia native, Ariana chose Vincennes University because it felt like home and offered an opportunity to grow both as a player and person. She enters her first season with the Trailblazers focused on getting stronger, earning playing time, remaining coachable and creating opportunities for her future. Her goals for the team go beyond winning a championship, as she also wants to help build strong team chemistry and create an environment where teammates continuously push one another.
Since arriving at VU, Ariana says she has already learned the importance of time management and mental strength, while her teammates and coaches have become her favorite part of being a Trailblazer. She is studying Criminology with plans to become a crime detective, though her dream job would be working as a model.
Away from basketball, Ariana enjoys Pilates, listening to Jay-Z and R&B and watching college basketball. Her favorite athlete is Napheesa Collier, her favorite food is crawfish and Destin, Florida ranks as her favorite vacation spot. She also has plenty of superstitions, including never splitting a pole, opening an umbrella indoors or putting a hat on a bed.
Already known for protecting the rim, Ariana arrives at Vincennes ready to continue developing her game while helping the Trailblazers pursue their championship goals.
Coach Johnson on Ari...
"Ari brings a level of energy and athleticism that immediately impacts our team. Her length allows her to be a disruptive shot blocker and a real defensive menace, but she also has the ability to change the game by running the floor and creating opportunities in transition. As a freshman, I’m excited to see her continue to embrace her strengths and grow into her role."
